The Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation invites the community to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the Huey P. Newton bust's installation and the 57th anniversary of the Black Panther Party. There will be music, food, vendors, and guest speakers. This is a free event for the entire family!
In 2021, our Foundation celebrated the installation of the Dr. Huey P. Newton bust. It was the first permanent art installation erected on public land to commemorate the contributions of the Black Panther Party in the City of Oakland, CA. Earlier that year, we successfully renamed 3 blocks of 9th Street to Dr. Huey P. Newton Way.
Early in 2023, the Foundation opened its first brick and mortar space at 1427 Broadway in downtown Oakland. Since opening, we have held a number of events that preserve and promote the legacy of the Black Panther Party and inspire ongoing movement buildling.
On Sunday, October 22, 2023, we will convene again, but in a new location and under a new name -- Pantherfest! This will be a joyous celebration of our new location, but it will also challenge us to recommit ourselves to the movement under this year's theme, "Revolution in our time." There will be dozens of vendors, live music, DJ Nina Sol on the 1s and 2s, youth performances by the Prescott Circus, and a closing piece by internationally renown perfmance group, Bandaloop!
Join us and tell a friend, neighbor, or colleague - let's fill downtown Oakland!
